Golf's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! I've no idea, nor interest, in whether this is the greatest LP of all time. If Sgt Pepper or OK Computer (or any other) is your preference then fair enough! (My favourite album is not even on the 1001 list.) But Pet Sounds is a timeless classic that deserves its status for 'God Only Knows' alone - one of the greatest love songs ever. That it is joined by 12 other tracks of a similar standard truly makes this album one that no one should miss.
Maire's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! Classic for a reason.

Golf's verdict: Officially one of music's most unlikely success stories, The Soft Bulletin propelled them from peripheral acid casualities into some sort of headlining, mainstream success. This follow up concedes no ground to their psychedelic past, being a vague concept album about a Japanese girl and some troublesome robots, but is full of some lovely, accessible tunes.
Maire's verdict: Great album but just not as good as Soft Bulletin.

Golf's verdict: This was definitely a 'mini-LP' when I first owned it as a pimply 15 year old, but has since been expanded to include their 'hit' - 'Touch Me I'm Sick' and several others. This is a good thing as little else comes up to the standard that one reaches. Briefly huge as a result of their proximity in style, record label and city (Seattle) to Nirvana, they prove to be a bit short on tunes to sustain much of a challenge.
Maire's verdict: Knew and liked the first track but got boring pretty quickly.

Golf's verdict: Poor 'other two' from The Police (Stewart and Andy), having your legacy sullied by the continuing fact of having to share your place in history with one of music's most insufferable arses, Sting. There are some decent tunes on here, but it's almost painful to concede that. And, of course, 'Every Breath You Take' is still really creepy...
Maire's verdict: Can't stand The Police: smug lead singer and shite music. Also, I don't understand why so many couples decide their first dance should be a song about a stalker. People sometimes puzzle me.
