Golf's verdict: The extraordinary voice is there and the songwriting is starting to really shine on this debut, particularly on the well observed 'Fuck Me Pumps', but it's a couple of steps behind the follow up. A fine album though.
Maire's verdict: Fantastic voice but album isn't as good as Back to Black.

Golf's verdict: Mighty fine harmonising and the additional of Young, especially on his 'Helpless', raises the quality a notch.
Maire's verdict: Thoroughly enjoyable listen. Particularly liked 'Helpless' and 'Our House'.

Golf's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! Mainly on account of the extraordinary versions of 'Ball and Chain' and 'Summertime', but they have to be heard to be believed. Incredible singer, was Janis.
Maire's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! God, Janis had an amazing voice. I first heard 'Piece of My Heart' when it was theme to a Levis ad and adored it. Never listened to this album before but will definitely listen again.
