Golf's verdict: I have tried and tried again to get fully behind REM. I own this and several other albums and - whilst they all have many highlights - it's never really all clicked into place for me. I do have a soft spot for 'Orange Crush' though - one of their finest.

Maire's verdict: Okay but nothing special.

Golf's verdict: This sounds a bit like the UK Subs or Chelsea of the US Punk scene, if The Dead Kennedys were more The Sex Pistols. Not a big fan. Singer (shouter) Henry Rollins has developed into absolutely charming raconteur and renaissance man however, so never judge a book by it's cover:

Maire's verdict:  I love 'shouty' (as my mother called it) music when there's something else to it (think System of a Down, for example). There is nothing apart from shouting to this and I never want to hear it again.

Golf's verdict: 11 jangly, harmony-rich classics and one very strange cover of 'We'll Meet Again'. Yes, THAT 'We'll Meet Again'.

Maire's verdict: I enjoyed this - a lovely soundtrack to a sunny afternoon.
