Golf's verdict: This is much more like it from the New York cool kids. Full of great guitar driven tunes with drawled vocals. No 'Daydream Nation', but a significant improvement on 'Goo'.

Maire's verdict: Enjoyed it more than Goo but still not a favourite.

Golf's verdict:
Gary deserves more credit for pioneering electronic music than he recieves these days. Other than the huge hit "Cars", this is full of moody, atmospheric tunes - including M.E. which, to my surprise, is based on the riff that Basement Jaxx sample for 'Where's Your Head At'.

Maire's verdict: Rather good. Not sure I've listened to the whole album previously but remembered when I did that I rated his 2013 album when I heard it on 6 Music.... before forgetting all about it.

Golf's verdict: He's a fascinating individual who had an immense impact on his country and continent and on music. It's not my favourite genre by a long way, but if you've never heard Afrobeat then I'd urge you to give it a go. As someone else describes Fela Kuti, his sound is American-African - drawing on the African-American music from across the Atlantic that influences it.

Maire's verdict: What's with all the jazz on this list? Not my type of music and all a bit screechy when the singing started. Drove me slightly insane.
