Golf's verdict: Jonathan Richman invented stoner rock with this classic. And outsider, nerd rock and probably art rock too: certainly the type of art rock that Talking Heads perfected soon after this was released (though it was mostly recorded much earlier in the '70s). In fact, David Byrne probably owes quite a lot to this album, which (not so) coincidentally features Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads on keyboards. 'Roadrunner' may get all the airplay, but - like Talking Heads' '77 of the following year, it's full of quirky goodness.

Maire's verdict: Really enjoyed this. Made me think of The Strokes.

Golf's verdict: Yes, it's Krautrock. Not sure if it is un-PC to describe it as such. It's not very good frankly, whatever we now call it.

Maire's verdict: Absolute shite. How did this get on the list?

Golf's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! I absolutely love Richard Thompson, but never really got as far back in his career as Fairport Convention. This is great folk music, a lot of it 'Trad. Arr.' stuff (i.e. it's an old tune adapted to a more modern and electrified arrangement). Sandy Denny sings beautifully too. Highly recommended.

Maire's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! Never listened to the band before. Absolutely loved the album.
