Golf's verdict: A huge, sprawling undertaking of largely pretty succinct songs, originally spread over a double-album. Inspired by Gang of Four and Wire but no-doubt also inspirational to the early Chilli Peppers and many of the huge US bands to emerge from California in the late 80s.

Máire's verdict: The kind of album that I’d usually go for but it left me cold.

Golf's verdict: Just made me think of the Coen Brothers and the Soggy Bottom Boys from O Brother, Where Art Thou? Full of great Appalachian style American folk music, including a particular banjo favourite of mine, 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown'. Great fun.

Máire's verdict: Some lovely songs / tunes but at least one of the vocalists can’t sing and it’s too bloody long.

Golf's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! Nothing has sounded quite like this album before or since. Although the earlier 'Isn't Anything' album is my favourite, this still ranks as one of the most original and genre-defining/creating albums of all time.

Máire's verdict: Another album I should really like but just couldn’t get into it.
