Golf's verdict: He's Cuban, which explains the rather eclectic mix of afro-caribbean and latin influences on display. I imagine this would have sounded very exotic in 1957 and it still has the power to get the foot tapping.
Máire's verdict: Not for me.

Golf's verdict: HIDDEN GEM! Hard to think of the Manics becoming the well established anthemic rock outfit had Richie not disappeared soon after this was released. I imagine they would have ploughed a much more esoteric furrow had he gotten his demons under control. This is similar in some way to Closer by Joy Division - strangely compulsive music with lyrics from a lost soul.
Máire's verdict: Well that was a collection of cheerful ditties! Wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did as I’m not a fan of the Manics - most of their stuff sounds exactly the same. This was different.

Golf's verdict: More 'not quite as good as Metallica, but quite good' from Dave Mustaine and pals.
Máire's verdict: Exactly what you’d expect- nothing more, nothing less.
